Welcome!
Alexander Pringle MA BSc ( 1842 - 1934) was born in Greenlaw, educated there and
at Edinburgh University. For thirty years he was the Assistant Curator at the
Museum of Practical Geology in Jermyn Street, London. He also proofread texts
on geology. Throughout his life he was a contributor of letters and articles to
a variety of publications on wide range of subjects, including Pringle
history. He kept a scrapbook containing many examples of these
contributions. This scrapbook also contains many cuttings, letters and
photographs relating to his family and friends. There are also many items
relating to other people bearing the name Pringle, including many
casualty notices from the First World War. Alex had no children and
when he died the scrapbook was passed to my great grandmother Anabella Waldie
Pringle (his niece).
To view the scrapbook images, click here to open the index. ( Warning the files are
large - and may not download properly on a dial-up connection )
In 1933, the year before his death, Alex' book "The Records of the
Pringles or Hoppringles of the Scottish Border" was published ( by
Oliver and Boyd) . I have typed out the contents and added an index here.
Please send any comments ,
enquiries , suggestions, etc to me at mailto:pringlepeople@hotmail.com.
I would love to hear from
you .
